Luke 1:46-47
And Mary said, “I’m bursting with God-news; I'm dancing the song of my Savior God, God took one look at me, and look what happened, Im the most fortunate woman on earth”
Five years ago, Pastor Parris Bailey and other Women’s Pastors began to minister in Jefferson Parish Correctional Women’s Center. We noticed a pattern with the women after they were released. Many of them returned to the life they once lived on the streets. As a result of this, the need to assist in rehabilitating them to the outside world was recognized, birthing the vision of Mary’s Song.
What started as an ugly, gutted double and building in one of the worst Katrina hit neighborhoods in New Orleans, has turned into a beautiful house and dormitory for women in trouble. We have been amazed at the many, many volunteers from our church and beyond that show up to put their gifts to use. Without these volunteers, Mary’s Song would have been just a dream. Week after week, workers and volunteers are showing up with the desire to help where help is needed.
An important step with the development of Mary’s Song was teaming up with New Orleans Teen Challenge, which has a wonderful Christ-centered and based rehab program. Despite being in New Orleans for over 30 years, NOTC has never set up a women’s home. For four months, the women will undergo educational, vocational, and spiritual training at Mary’s Song; subsequently they will be sent off to northern Louisiana for further training.
Financial support for Mary’s Song has come from far and wide, most of which through donations. During the operation, the women participating in the program will raise finances by cleaning venues, such as the Airline Campus of Victory Fellowship.
It is our desire for many of you to come and pour into these women’s lives, both spiritually and educationally. Come share your testimonies, lead a bible study, or even teach a trade, but please do not be shy toward lending a hand. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Debra McNabb or the church office for more information.
The Facility
Mary’s Song facilities are comprised of a beautiful, newly-renovated double shot-gun house with newly renovated dormitories directly across the street. Also located across the street from the Mary’s Song house is Victory Fellowship’s Broad Street Mission church. The close proximity of these buildings makes it easy for the women to attend worship services and participate in activities as part of the church body. All of these facilities are located at Broad Street and Iberville in New Orleans’ Mid City area.
